Police lose three officers, arrest six armed robbery suspects in Delta

Delta State Police Command were yesterday thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of three officers attached to Umutu Divisional Police Headquarters by unknown gunmen.


The three officers were killed at a Checkpoint mounted by the deceased along the Obeti/Oliogo Road in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State.


The Guardian gathered that the hoodlums immediately set the officers’ patrol van, aToyota Sienna ablaze, while the deceased were inside the burning vehicle.


Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the killings when contacted, though he did not give details.


Meanwhile, operatives of Delta State Anti- Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKCCS), have arrested six suspected criminals, who allegedly murdered  Prince of Orhuwhorun, Eric Takerere, and two mobile police officers in Ekpan community of the state.

Edafe, who confirmed the arrest, told journalists in Asaba that Prince Takerere and the two officers were murdered and their rifles carted away; adding that they also attempted to murder his brother, Prince Franklyn Takerere.


According  to him,  since their murder, the police had not relented in efforts to arrest fleeing members of the gang, hence the earlier arrest of one Godspower Agabarhayowe “aka” GANAGANA ‘m’ age 27 and Tony Edwin ‘m’ age 27 years.


He said  the suspects were earlier arrested on July 09, 2021 in connection with the murder and thereafter, led the police operatives to their hideout in Udu, Warri and Aladja area, where six members of the gang were arrested.

He gave the names of the suspects as Onoriode Shefo “aka” Chikago “m” age 36 years, Omagbeosa Sholla “m” age 30years, Godwin Obukoemu “aka” Million “m” age 30years, Ejime Mugagbam “m” age 34years, Ejiroghenen Nushe “m” age  24years and Egho Monday “m” age 28years.


“They all confessed to be involved in the murder of prince Eric Takerere, his two mobile police escorts. They also led the operatives to their armoury, where two AK47 rifles, one pump action gun, one –locally made pistol, four magazines, 76 rounds of live ammunition and 38 rounds of live cartridges  were recovered, “he added.


Edafe also informed that on September 7, 2021,the police had a gun duel with some armed robbery suspects, who were operating at Obogo community.

“During the gun duel, one of the armed robbers sustained gunshot injury, while two  others escaped,” he said.
