The remains of the late father of Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Dr. Emmanuel Abiodun, was yesterday interred at the cemetery of St. James’ Anglican Church, Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Council of the state.

The burial ceremony, which was the climax of the three-day event, was attended by Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye; former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his counterparts, Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti) and Godwin Obaseki (Edo) and former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, among other prominent Nigerians.
They urged the children to be united in love and ensure they keep their father’s legacy alive.
Abiodun, in his tribute, described his father as his mentor, teacher, and moral compass.
He said no word could describe the shock and unbearable blow of losing his father.
He stated that the virtues and high moral standards inculcated in him by his father through his mentorship had really shaped him and assisted him in his life’s journey.
He said: “You were not only humble and affectionate, but you were also a humble father, grandfather, a moral compass, and a source of guidance to the whole family.
“We will forever cherish your memories and look after your darling wife, companion, friend, and partner of 65 years who is our dear mother.
“I hope you are watching as the whole world is celebrating you because you brought so much happiness to many hearts that you taught and touched.
“I am proud to be your first child and son. Your spirit will forever be beside me and I know you will always be with me.”
Delivering the message of President Muhammadu Buhari, Osinbajo noted that Pa Abiodun enjoyed the grace of God, stressing that he did not take the grace for granted, but gave back to his community via teaching profession and service to God.
In his sermon at the service, the Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos and Diocesan Bishop of Remo, Most Rev. (Dr.) Olusina Fape, urged politicians to use their positions to alleviate the sufferings of the masses.
He equally expressed concern over the spate of insecurity in the country, which include kidnapping for ransom, banditry, killings, saying that these call for urgent action by the government.
He described Pa Abiodun as a great teacher and committed Christian who dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity.
